With the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) assessing options for its new NGA West Facility, U.S. Representatives Mike Bost (R-IL), John Shimkus (R-IL) Rodney Davis (R-IL) recently wrote a letter to NGA Director Robert Cardillo to emphasize the benefits of St. Clair County.
This is an additional letter, as Bost and company have been working hard to bring the NGA facility to St. Clair. They believe that the operational and financial benefits of the O’Fallon site in St. Clair County make it the best option for the NGA.
“We believe that the St. Clair County site adjacent to Scott Air Force Base (AFB) represents the best option to help the NGA achieve its stated mission to ‘deliver world-class geospatial intelligence that provides a decisive advantage to policymakers, warfighters, intelligence professionals and first responders,' ” Bost said. “At a time when our national security is at increased risk, the NGA ensures we have the tools necessary to keep Americans safe, both at home and abroad.”
There are three sites competing to host the NGA West campus, including two in Missouri and the St. Clair County site. The United States Army Corps of Engineers has assessed the qualities of these sites in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
The NGA itself is a government agency that exists to provide geospatial intelligence in support of national security.
