The Plan Commission for the City of Alton, Illinois convened recently to discuss special use permits.
After Chairman Mark Hackworth called the meeting to order and roll call was taken, a group of citizens — Steve and Dee Gehrs and James, Rita, Marion and Anita Velloff — petitioned the commission for a special use permit in order to run a limited service restaurant and catering business at 1801 State St. They also asked for a waiver to Title 11, Chapter 9, Section 5 C (d) that deals with the number of off-street parking spaces required for the special use permit. After some discussion, the commission approved the special use permit and waiver.
Also discussed as the meeting was a special use permit for a used car dealership at 46 E. Elm, and a special use permit for a nursing home and assisted living facility at 845 Danforth and 300 McInerney.
Commission members present at the meeting included the Hackworth, along with John Rain, Bill Stoutenborough, Joe Blair, Barry Clayton, Anne Doucleff, Gary Doerr, Terry Dooley and Todd Harpole.
The City Plan Commission recommends public improvements to the City Council as it looks to develop and grow the city. It gives advice to city officials for improvements to projects covered within the official City Plan.
