Alton Plan Commission has approved the construction of local sound studio.

Alton Plan Commission has approved the construction of local sound studio.

In a recent meeting of the Alton Plan Commission, Thomas Blake and T. Gaynor Blake of GST Trust petitioned for an amendment and special use permit that would allow them operate a motion picture and sound recording business at 115 Market St. in Alton.

During the hearing, the petitioners discussed the specifics of their potential studio and answered any committee questions. They talked about sound input, acoustic treatment, the isolated control room, the vocal booth, door and window acoustic insulation, and double-insulated wall and windows. They also provided an image of the layout of the facility.

After some discussion, Deputy Director of Development and Housing Matt Asselmeier was asked what would happen if the studio’s sound turned out to disturb neighbors. Asselmeier noted that, in that case, the special use permit and business license could be revoked.

The committee approved the sound studio.
