“I regularly visit businesses of all sizes across the 15th District,” Shimkus said. “In every one of the 33 counties I represent, I’ve heard stories of rising regulatory costs, our nation’s complicated tax code and federal rules and mandates that make it difficult to run a small business. I’m thankful to NFIB for recognizing the importance of not only taking those concerns back to Washington, but voting for solutions to the challenges my constituents face.”
The biennial award is based on pro-job, pro-growth votes in Congress. Legislators who supported at least 70 percent of the issues NFIB deemed as key votes received the award. Among the key votes that determined this year's awards were the approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline, repeal of the death tax and overturn of Obamacare. In these key situations, Shimkus' votes were cast in favor of small businesses 100 percent of the time.
NFIB promotes and protects the rights of small business owners. It provides free business resources, advocates for small business and information about new laws that affect small business owners. It has 325,000 members.
