David Fields, a pastor at Hartford's Assembly of God Church, recently announced his candidacy for village trustee in what will be his first foray into the political arena.
Although Fields is new to the political scene and a political independent, his work within the church may serve as proof of his leadership and organizational abilities.
If elected, he plans to improve the Hartford Village Trustee Board.
“My number one priority is to bring an educated understanding of leadership and organizational development to our village government,” Fields said. “Second, I want to help establish a more fiscally responsible way for a village to operate by working to reduce our deficits.”
While campaigning with the goal of reducing deficits is nothing new in politics, there may be more to Field’s goal of organizational and leadership improvements. Currently, the candidate is pursuing his doctoral degree in organizational leadership.
To Fields, teamwork is a major issue and a strength he said he wants to use to the village’s advantage.
“Finally, I want to partner with the mayor, village board and village staff to develop a more comprehensive approach to economic development,” Fields said. “I want to help the team bring jobs and businesses to Hartford, which will serve to increase the standard of living for everyone blessed to call this place home.”
