Collinsville FD responds to 79 fires in 2016

Collinsville Fire Department responded to 191 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Metro East Sun.

The calls in Collinsville included 79 fires - 23 structure fires, 17 vehicle fires and 37 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $358,700 in fire loss - or about $4,541 per fire.

The department also received 112 false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries.

The Collinsville Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 32 active employees and 30 retired or inactive employees, was $1,703,220 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $21,560 for every fire in 2016.
