Lewis and Clark Community College's Rebecca Gockel was recently honored with an Emerson Electric Excellence in Teaching Award for 2017 based on a record peers say is marked with integrity, compassion and dedication.
The awards recognize educators in the St. Louis area who are examples of excellence in their field, a Lewis and Clark release said.
Gockel, an associate professor of business and paralegal program coordinator at the college, said she was humbled by the award, in the release.
“It’s so rewarding to work in an environment where colleagues genuinely care about one another and rally for each other, both personally and professionally,” Gockel said in the release. “This award signifies my true appreciation of my role at L&C. I never take my job for granted here.”
Gockel academic credentials include an MBA degree from Webster University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Illinois State University with a political science minor in legal studies, the release said.
“I respect Becky for her integrity, her compassion and most of all the dedication she demonstrates for the success of this career program,” Kerri Forsythe, a paralegal adjunct faculty member mentored by Gockel, said in the release.
Gockel launched the college’s paralegal program, which trains students for service in area law offices.
“The local job market for paralegals has far exceeded my expectations when I started the program 12 years ago,” Gockel said in the release. “This programs rapid growth and the metro east employers response to it has been my best professional success story by far.”
