Using a wood boiler to generate heat may save businesses money, and a study underway by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) can calculate exactly how much savings they can realize.
A part of the University of Illinois, the ISTC is sponsoring the free studies for businesses across the state, according to a press release from the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce. The deadline to apply for this program is Dec. 31.
A grant of almost $250,000 from the U.S. Forest Service is underwriting the project, aimed at weaning companies from using fossil fuels, the release said. Illinois has an ample renewable resource in the form of some 1 million tons of wood.
