City of Alton Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency Committee met Dec. 5.

Because of a room conflict met across across the hall. Wayne received a phone call from member Adam Peipert stating that he will not make future meetings because of work/time conflict. Members nominated Nick Johnson to become a member of “cool cities”. David will check with Mayor Walker for the “official appointment”.
Deanna: City, AARP & SSP joined in “livable communities for all ages”. Deanna, at the invitation of AARP, attended the AARP November Forum in Dallas. She provided several publication/ factsheets on “roadmap to community livability” - complete streets. community outreach.getting diverse people to set at the table. safer streets.streets & people. people centered not auto centered. view AARP www (online) for eight areas of livable.
Nick attended “Main Street” at the Post- discussion included Sustainability / Community participation / making city more walkable.Creating common area places for people.
Thoughts on solar energy: Plan to lease land from city- after so many years (typically 20-30 years) of productivity.what area is needed to generate megawatts??? Nick (energy economist - ABD-) solar & wind & biofuels & Grid- city issued two solar permits. Nick would you check the zoning regulations for solar permits? Deanna will get to Nick. Copy of special use permit.what is the criteria.easements? Nick & Jeff- In the near future could conduct Energy audits for homeowners with Principia students. Ameren ACT on energy is it still in operation?
Announcements: On December 20th Madison county- Community Development meeting will discuss Environmental Grants up to $15,000 might be right for our work. Also, AARP first meeting will be held at 5:30 today at City Hall- invited to attend.
