Statewide test results: 91 percent of Venice failed English language arts

Scores11

About 9 percent of Venice Elementary School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2017 and 91 percent of students failed, according to a Metro East Sun analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to Venice Elementary School English language scores, about 9 percent met expectations and none exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 24 percent approached expectations, while 46 percent partially met expectations and 21 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Venice Elementary School, which enrolled 57 students in 2017, surpassed state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
