Meetingroom02

City of Edwardsville SIUE Community Destination Group met Jan. 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the Group:

Present: Chad Verbais-Chair, Kim Durr, Luke Jansen, Doug Rohrer, Jessica DeSpain, Matt Parrott, Kelly Jo Karnes, Megan Gooch, Walter Williams, Cheryl Watson Absent: Ramon DeShazer, Paul Pitts

Chad opened the meeting at 6:05 p.m. December minutes approved.

SIUE basketball community event - Chad: Tickets are at the Clerk’s desk at City Hall. Two videos with the Mayor and Chancellor are complete. The VIP Room opens at noon. Our group’s tickets will be at Will Call and Cheryl will pass out the tickets to the City people attending. Park in Lot F. Put on SIUE “Announce,” Kim will send to Dr. Hightower. Cheryl will ask the Clerk’s desk to start asking people if they want a free ticket instead of waiting for people to ask for them. She will also send some to the YMCA to give away.

Financials – Doug: Reported that we still have $4,215.72.

Thank you Betsy – A thank you card for former member Betsy Meinz was passed around again and everyone signed it.

A-Frames – Kelly Jo: Now advertising the basketball game, events at the Wildey Theatre - including yoga classes.

Springboard – Chad: $3350 - $3500 quote from Devory for new videos. They do great work, but maybe too expensive for us. Plan to start shooting in March, video needed by May. Ideas to include: yoga at the Wildey, the video of the Mayor and Chancellor, Stephenson House, Goshen Market on campus, new Public Safety Buildings and Corlew Park, Township Park, Criterium, coffee shops, planned Plummer Family Park, hotels, Mannie Jackson Center for Humanities. Ask SIUE Marketing for stock footage or still shots.

Bridge Building City Campus Ideas:

• Goshen Market is invited back to campus in both April and September.

• Send a letter from the Mayor to prospective parents welcoming their child to Edwardsville. Kelly Jo will check on this, it would probably be about 2,000 letters.

• Ideas for a tradition: bring back the block party, tricycle races, cardboard boat regatta, tailgating at an athletic event, have a party for seniors at Township Park.

• Why not light up downtown at Christmas? Have a Winter Fest with ice-skating on campus. A tree lighting ceremony maybe at the library the day after Thanksgiving. Invite student government and have SIUE carolers.

• Student government would like to host the next Hash brown Huddle this spring.

• An expanded High School Counselor Fly-In is March 23. This year it will be in a meeting room at the Wildey Theatre.

• Rotary Student of the Month dates are set for the rest of the semester.

Preview: First one is February 19, then again in March, June, October, and November. We will need to man the booths from 11:00 – 2:30.

Bags for Springboard as well as goodies need to be ordered soon.

Next meeting on Tuesday, February 20, at 6pm. Meeting adjourned at 7:10 pm.
