City of Alton Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency Committee met March 6.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Members present: Alderman David Boulds, Jeff Dale, Nick Johnson Deanna Barnes-DD of Dev, Wayne Politsch, Randy Hausmann, Zeke Jabusch

Deanna reported on SIUE Communities Collaborative (SCCC) program that develops partnerships with municipalities to focus on sustainable/economic projects with undergrad/graduates courses ranging from stormwater retention to energy efficiency to bike/walkways.entire class would focus on the issues.begins March 15 (see handout).

Randy presented an update on his vision for a community solar system- he has been in conversation with SUNERGY and will send email to committee members to the company web site. Note- the solar field project near Pickneyville (Perry County) largest solar array in Illinois and will double the state’s solar energy output.

Dave noted that 2 or 3 electric car hookups ($695) would be incorporated into the new construction at Gordon Moore Park. Jeff may include his electric car at one of the cool cities booths.

Nick identified stakeholders and bike trails located in southwest Illinois.especially “hotspots” lacking trail-to-trail connections.will continue to collect information- especially near Elsah and the River Road. Deanna noted the public meeting by Heartland Conservancy for the city of Alton bike plan on April 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 at City Hall.

Nick will send out the “where & whens” on the April Sustainability Conference (3 day session) at Principia - featuring several keynote speakers.

Deanna remarked that Mary at city hall is searching for grant funding to replace the back-up diesel /electric generator

Dave gave an “update” on the plans by American Waters to purchase the wastewater treatment plant to generate revenue to pay down pension fund bonds.
