City of Alton Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency Committee met April 3. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

A meeting of the CPEEC was called to order at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at


Alton City Hall, 101 E. Third Street, Alton.

Members present: Alderman David Boulds, Wayne Politsch

Deanna Barnes-DD of Dev, Randy Hausmann

Jeff Dale, Zeke Jabusch

Deanna: downtown business material is not being recycled. Called Republic -noted that

recycling is more expensive than trash pickup.Does Madison County have money

to recycle materials? Edwardsville is doing what? County tipping fees. Invite Lauren P.

back on how OBB recycles and achieves sustainability.

How about a field trip to EarthCity to see recycling system? Sierra Club or small

Alton business.Zeke & Randy will contact Republic to set up schedule.

Community solar issues: Randy (See handout of Alton proposal from Randy Hsu

Sunergy) gave estimate for solar power plan for Alton.Dave noted that several

companies have approached Alton to set up community solar.set up either on private

or Alton public land.

Deanna: County Green City Challenge April 12th Glen Carbon 8-11:30 Thursday

How many spots needed ? Deanna will e-mail us details…will meet in Glen Carbon.

Lime Bikes: program bank roll out of California will provide bikes to rent- use phone app

to unlock tire and ride bike with GPS and will pick it up… already operational in St.

Louis… trial will begin soon in Alton.

AARP web site…identify “vital signs” for a people-centered community.

Note some of the special Earth Day events in the area.
