Collinsville Community Unit School District 10 issued the following announcement on May 25.

Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 Library/Media Center utilization continues its upward trend thanks to innovative work by the district’s Library/Media Specialists:  Tracey Schmidt (Collinsville High School) and Michael Hayman (Collinsville Middle School).

In their annual report to the Board of Education, Schmidt and Hayman discussed various online and physical resources available to students and the various ways students can access tools in and out of school. In addition to the schools where they are officed, the the Library/Media team is responsible for all of the CUSD school libraries and resources.

2017-18  highlights include:

• Dorris All Read: Internet Safety Month
• CMS Overdrive App
• Lightbox Titles
• BreakoutEDU
• Book Tasting
• Elementary School Outreach/Assistance

According to research conducted by the National Education Association (NEA), strong Library/Media Centers are critical to student success and are indicators of quality schools.  While many school districts have cut library services due to budget constraints, CUSD 10 has continued to fund Library/Media Centers and Specialists.  These resources are especially important for students who live in poverty and face other challenges.
