East Station Louis Fire Department responded to 879 calls in 2017 - 16.1 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in East Louis included 527 fires - 144 structure fires, 110 vehicle fires and 273 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $3,236,778 in fire loss - or about $6,142 per fire.

The department also received 351 false calls, including 16 malicious calls and 335 other false calls.

The calls resulted in five civilian non-fire injuries and four civilian fire-related deaths. Additionally, four fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and four were injured in non fire-related incidents.
