St. Elizabeth's Hospital issued the following announcement on July 19.
To serve our patients and the community, HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital offers a free stroke support group for stroke survivors and their families.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, August 1 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the St. Francis Conference Room, located adjacent to the main hospital lobby, at 1 St. Elizabeth’s Blvd., O’Fallon.
“The goal of the support group is to foster a better understanding of stroke recovery, rehabilitation and prevention of recurrent strokes while providing a way for stroke survivors to meet others with similar challenges,” notes Christy Koenigstein, CTRS, Recreational Therapist at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
In addition, caregivers and family members of those affected by stroke are offered an open atmosphere for sharing and for supporting each other. Additional meetings during 2018 include October 3 and December 5. Presentation topics vary monthly.
St. Elizabeth’s received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award in June 2018. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence. The hospital also serves as an Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital (ESRH) for the region, as designated by Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
