City of O'Fallon issued the following announcement on July 24.

At the July 16, 2018 City Council Meeting, O’Fallon Police Chief Eric Van Hook presented Telecommunicator Michelle Foster with a Chief’s Commendation for her completion of the “Ruck to Remember 60 to 60”. Telecommunicator Foster completed the 60-mile challenge in honor of fallen officers and soldiers.

“Michelle is a dedicated public servant, avid runner, and proud mother of a Marine. She is a great example of the selfless, and dedicated employees that we are fortunate to have,” said Mayor Herb Roach.

The 60 to 60 is a 60-mile journey that begins in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. In 35 Hours, a team traverses 60 miles over austere terrain rucking to remember our fallen and the sacrifices of battle. By sunrise on Memorial Day morning, the team descends into Washington DC making a final movement through the National War Memorials and into Arlington National Cemetery, Section 60.

Michelle completed this challenge on May 28, 2018 in honor of Pfc. Tyler R. Lubelt, 20, of Tamaroa, Illinois. Tyler paid the ultimate sacrifice on November 12, 2016 serving during Operation Freedom’s sentinel as a result of injuries sustained from an improvised device.

“I am extremely proud of Michelle for her accomplishment and dedication to MECOMM,” said Director of Public Safety, Chief Eric Van Hook. “She is definitely deserving of this commendation.”
