St. Elizabeth's Hospital issued the following announcement on Aug. 6.

HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers Scholarship Committee recently awarded three $1000 scholarships to area students through the annual HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Auxiliary Volunteer Scholarship program.

The Auxiliary Volunteer Scholarship is offered to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital colleagues and volunteers, as well as their spouses, children and grandchildren. The scholarship winners were chosen from a blind process based on volunteer hours, resume and letters of recommendation. Applicants provided a short submission about their career path and goals.

The recipients were:

  • Mackenzi Lawson of Hillsboro, Ill., who plans to attend Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in the fall.  Her major is Biochemistry and later plans on going to medical school.
  • Madeline Remelius of Swansea, Ill. is currently attending the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and studying for her Doctorate degree.  Remelius will be receiving this scholarship for the second consecutive year, having received the Auxiliary Scholarship Award in August of 2017.
  • Ann Rudloff of Waterloo, Ill. is currently employed by HSHS St. Elizabeth’s hospital in the Emergency Department and is in the nursing program at Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC).
The St. Elizabeth’s Auxiliary Volunteers Scholarship Committee is proud to offer these three scholarships to support the educational goals of students in our community and to continue to grow the health care professionals of the future for our region.
