Dwight Kay argues if Illinois is ever to be Illinois again the change has to start in earnest on election day.

“This whole campaign is about whether people stay or leave Illinois, and that all hinges on who’s in power to determine its direction,” Kay told Metro East Sun. “That’s the thinking I want voters to carry to the polls with them on Nov. 6.”

Running against state Rep. Katie Stuart (D-Edwardsville) in the 112th District, Kay said his closing message is one of affordability and accountability.

“If you want to stay here, I want to make it where you can thrive and live comfortably with your family,” he said. “I think I’ve got solutions to problems we face as a state in terms of Illinois being an affordable and prosperous place to live, while my opponent has offered nothing.”

Even when Stuart has spoken up, Kay said her words have led to more confusion than solutions.

“She’s said she wants to reduce taxes and lessen the burden, but has voted in favor of every tax increase there’s been and has made no effort to reform anything,” he said.  “In the business world, that’s the only way to grow things and bring jobs back.”

Kay said he hopes to see as many voters as possible turn out to have their voices heard and their views expressed.

“It’s been an election filled with character assassinations of Republican candidates across the state, but in the end all that matters is the will of the voters,” Kay said.

“Tearing down someone’s character is no plan for rescuing this state. We have to put the right people in office, leaders who have a sense of what needs to be done and are willing to do what the people desire.”

Illinois’ 112th District includes Bethalto, Caseyville, Fairmont City, Glen Carbon, Maryville, Pontoon Beach, Roxana, Shiloh and Swansea.
