Collinsville Community Unit School District 10 issued the following announcement on Jan. 8.
Eagle Scout candidate Hunter Snow adopted Webster Elementary School as the beneficiary of his Eagle Scout projects: a Blessing Box and new podium for the auditorium.
On Friday, January 4, 2019, with the help of several Webster students and Cub Scouts, Hunter unveiled the Blessing Box he designed and installed behind the school. The box was filled with non-perishable food items collected by students and staff.
A Blessing Box provides food and personal care items at no cost to members of the community in need. Webster’s large red Blessing Box is located in a safe area directly behind the school, accessible via a parking lot off Cemetery Street.
Hunter is familiar with the needs at Webster Elementary because his dad, Brad Snow, is the school’s principal. When Hunter started thinking about what he could do for his Eagle Scout project, he knew he wanted to make a difference for the Webster School community.
His proposal, which had to be for a not-for-profit cause, was approved by an Eagle Scout board of review. Hunter had to specify detailed plans and include how he would fund the project. Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
Hunter found construction plans online for the Blessing Box and set out to make it a reality. He earned money last summer by working on his grandmother’s farm. While designing and building the Blessing Box, he became aware of the need for a new speaker’s podium in the Webster School auditorium and added that to his to-do list.
In late December 2018, Hunter brought along friends and family to install the box at the chosen location behind the school. Finally, on January 4, 2019, the box was filled with food items collected by Webster Elementary.
People in the Collinsville community who have need for food or personal hygiene items can access the Blessing Box 24 hours a day/7 days a week. They can take what they want at no cost. The box will be re-stocked with donations. To contribute to the Blessing Box, contact Webster Elementary or simply place the items in the Blessing Box. (Only non-perishable items please!)
