The data shows that both of the released offenders in the New Athens zip code were men. The younger parolee was a 25-year-old man convicted of a crime against a person in 2016, and the other was a 30-year-old man convicted of a sex crime in 2010.
The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Stephen Recker. He was convicted of a sex crime in 2010, when he was 30 years old. He is now 40.
Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
