Rep. Bristow launches reelection campaign in District 111

Vote064

Illinois state Rep. Monica Bristow (D-Alton) has launched her reelection campaign for a second full-term in House District 111.

First appointed in 2017 to replace retiring Rep. Dan Beiser, Bristow vowed to continue working to bring quality affordable health care and economic prosperity to the people of her district.

“I am truly blessed to be able to work with my local mayor, township and community leaders, many of whom are considered close friends,” she told The Telegraph.

Bristow can count on having the support of the likes of Federation of Labor of Madison County President Dean Webb and Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons, both of whom were on hand for her announcement, with Webb adding, “Things are going our way for labor with Monica in our corner.”

Still, Bristow has much work to do to secure another trip to Springfield. Many in the district are staunchly opposed to her support for Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s progressive tax idea, with Piasa Motors owner Paul Schrimpf lamenting that the proposed tax hike may be enough to push him "and his 48 employees across the [Missouri] state line.

"As soon as it increases … there’s no reason to have our corporate headquarters in Illinois," Schrimpf continued. "That’s not sustainable. It’s my job; it’s any business owner’s job, to give the company and the employees the best chance of sustainability.”

As part of her announcement, Bristow pointed to her reputation for working across the aisle in order to get things done.

“When we work together and meet in the middle, that is when our republic and our state is at its best and working for the best interest of everyone in the state of Illinois,” she said.
