Cahokia Community Unit School District 187 Board of Education met Oct. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

1. Call to Order with the Pledge of Allegiance.

2. Roll Call.

3. Adopt Official Agenda giving the President discretion to take items out of order or in executive session as needed.

4. Approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting held on September 9, 2019.

5. Consider approval of bills as presented in the amount of $992,183.09 be authorized; that salaries for the month of October 2019 be authorized; that quick pay for September 2019 in the amount of $401,620.98 be approved; and that November 2019 salaries and bills to be quick paid be authorized.

6. Caring Parents of Cahokia Report.

7. Food Pantry Report.

8. Requests signed by interested citizens who attend the Board of Education meeting who request to speak to the Board.

9. Consent Agenda.

A. Employ DeMario Bell as an administrator for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Monday, September 16, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

B. Employ Carla Birkholz as a teacher for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Monday, August 12, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

C. Accept the written resignation of Jane Cohlmeyer as the sponsor for Future Educators of America club, effective Monday, September 9, 2019.

D. Employ Michelle Dorsey as a teacher for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Wednesday, September 4, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

E. Employ Tara Hubert as a social worker for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Monday, August 12, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

F. Accept the written resignation of Wendy Lochmann as the sponsor for the Junior Class and the newspaper, effective Monday, September 9, 2019.

G. Employ Matthew Morris as a teacher for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Wednesday, October 9, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

H. Accept the written resignation of John Procasky, teacher, effective at the close of the 2023-2024 school year. Mr. Procasky is requesting to retire under Article 50 - Early Retirement Incentive for Certified Staff Members Eligible for TRS, of the Cahokia Federation of Teachers contract. Mr. Procasky would also like to reserve the right to apply for any additional state retirement incentives that may become available before his retirement date.

I. Employ Kelly Sexton as a special education teacher for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Monday, September 30, 2019, pending successful completion of pre- employment requirements.

J. Employ Tyrone Smith as a teacher for the 2019-2020 school year, effective August 26, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

K. Facilitate payroll for the following AmeriCorp members for the 2019-2020 school year:

Jazmine Carter-Dudley 

Jayda Hill

Jolizsa Hillard 

Antrinice Stevenson 

Charlene Strong

L. Approve the following individuals to be placed on the permanent substitute or regular substitute teacher list and facilitate payroll:

Lutesia Davis

Mary Rogers

M. Create a hall monitor position.

N. Create an extended duty lunchroom monitor position.

O. Create a paraprofessional position for the Academic Character Development Center (ACDC).

P. Amend the previous decision made on August 12, 2019, to appoint Ke'yanna Johnson as District Media Coordinator and Homeless Liaison, and employ her in this position effective September 3, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

Q. Approve Airriona McCray to be placed on the substitute lunchroom/playground aide list and facilitate payroll.

R. Remove Taurus Moore as the Wirth Middle School Asst. Girls Basketball Coach, effective at the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

S. Employ Kimberly Pombert as the Title I bookkeeper for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Monday, October 7, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

T. Employ Darren Powell as a paraprofessional for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Tuesday, October 1, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

U. Employ Stephen Sampson as the athletic academic advisor for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Wednesday, August 14, 2019, pending successful completion of pre- employment requirements.

V. Employ Valerie Smith as a nurse for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Monday, September 23, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

W. Employ Aldean Mitchell as a lunchroom/playground aide for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Thursday, September 19, 2019, pending successful completion of pre- employment requirements.

X. Employ Timyrea Taylor as a lunchroom/playground aide for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Wednesday, October 2, 2019, pending successful completion of pre- employment requirements.

Y. Employ Jamal Williams as a custodian for the 2019-2020 school year, effective October 1, 2019, pending successful completion of pre-employment requirements.

Z. Approve Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave for Joe Wright, custodian, effective Monday, September 30, 2019, through Thursday, January 2, 2020. Mr. Wright will be using his accumulated sick and personal leave days in conjunction with his FMLA leave. Termination of this leave may be adjusted.

AA. Approve Aaron Johnson to be placed on the substitute security list and facilitate payroll.

BB. Employ the following as an assistant football coach for the 2019-2020 school year, effective Monday, July 1, 2019:

CC. Designate the following for the Southern Illinois Career and Technical Education System #460 Board of Control:

Consider accepting the hearing officer's recommendation from the discipline hearing held on Thursday, September 26, 2019, to expel an eighth grade student for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year; however, the expulsion will be stayed if the student enrolls and successfully completes the ROE Safe School Program.
