ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 113: Hoffman Encourages Residents to Shop Locally on Small Business Saturday

113

Illinois State House District 113 issued the following announcement on Nov. 27

As families begin their gift shopping for the holiday season, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, is encouraging local residents to support the local economy by shopping locally and supporting small businesses on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30.

“As a lifelong resident of the Metro East, I understand the meaningful influence that small businesses have in our community and the important role they play in our local economy,” Hoffman said. “When you shop small you are boosting our local economy and creating jobs for our friends, family and neighbors.”

Saturday, Nov. 30 marks the 10th Annual Small Business Saturday, which was created to help small businesses compete with large retailers between the busy shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Hoffman is encouraging residents to shop locally at small businesses this holiday season, as they offer unique goods for gifts, jobs for local residents, and support to local charities and organizations.

As state Representative, Hoffman has made it a priority to make Illinois more business-friendly by cutting burdensome regulations and developing plans to encourage the start of new businesses. Several of Hoffman’s initiatives, including the creation of an apprenticeship education tax credit and the elimination of the franchise tax, were recently signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker. As the former Chairperson of the House Labor and Commerce Committee and an effort to create new jobs across the state and improve Illinois’ infrastructure, Hoffman helped negotiate the state’s first capital investment plan in a decade.

“With my commitment to building a stronger Illinois, one of my top priorities as state Representative has been to pass policies to reignite our state’s economic engines and create new jobs,” continued Hoffman. “During this holiday season I encourage local residents to return the enormous support small businesses provide to our community by shopping locally.”
