City of Alton Civil Service Commission met Oct. 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

A regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was called to order at 8:13am on October 2, 2019 at Alton City Hall, 101 E. Third Street, Alton, Illinois.

Members Present: Michael Drake, Vicki Searles-Williams, Terry Bristow

Members Absent: None

Staff Present: Civil Service Attorney Patrick King

Guests Present: Lt Ford

A motion was made by Ms. Williams and seconded by Mr. Drake to approve the minutes of the regular meeting on September 18, 2019. Motion passed.

Three Street Maintenance Grade V Requisitions were signed.

Two Jailer Requisitions were signed.

A Communications Clerk Requisition was signed.

A Secretary III Requisition was signed.

Three requisitions for promotions n the Fire Department were signed; Pruitt to Engineer, Long to Captain, and Fischer to Battalion Chief.

Retirement form from Dennis Lovett was signed.

Resignations from Shane Ohlemeyer and Thomas Byrd were signed.

Mr. Drake made a motion to vote to accept the Job Description for Animal Control/Park Maintenance Grade V, seconded by Ms. Williams. All in favor. Job Description was signed.

A request was made by Fire Chief Jemison and Human Resources to change Civil Service Rule 10.03 A. 1. to read, “In the case of new employees appointed to the position of Firefighter in the

Fire Department, there shall be a probation period of one (1) year from date of hire. For new employees appointed to Police Officer in the Police Department…” Mr. Bristow made a motion to approved the rule change, seconded by Mr. Drake. All in favor.

Ms. Williams made a motion to vote to approve the background of Police and Dispatcher Applicant Kleinschnittger, seconded by Mr. Drake.

Mr. Drake made a motion to vote to approve the background of Dispatcher Applicant Scheffel, seconded by Ms. Williams.

Mr. Drake made a motion to vote to approve the background of Police Officer Applicant Roberts, seconded by Ms. Williams.

Roll Call:

Vicki Searles-Williams: yes

Terry Bristow: yes

Five interviews were held for Police Officers, Jailer and Dispatcher positions.

With no further business, Mr. Bristow made a motion, seconded by Mr. Drake to adjourn at 9:55am. Motion passed.
