City of Alton Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency Committee met Feb. 4.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Deanna: overview of East-West Gateway’s Alton Great Streets Proposal. January meeting seeking community input on “downtown makeover”.streets: lane reduction, walk & bike areas, better parking and pedestrian safety. Digital survey of audience. Will stress connecting cultural / historic areas such as Lovejoy Memorial includingnew signage. Will alert cool city members of next meeting in April

Straight-Up-Solar/Grow Solar request support by cool city & city. At least three public meetings will be held in Alton (last year 3 were at OBB).

Nick P: overview of the Old Alton landfill solar array project. April 6 is time line for receiving business/corp response to Alton RFP. Did receive one inquiry. Nick will set up a time to visit the site and get “the lay of the land”.

Opportunity Zones: (Zeke) T. Edison invention every 12 days-1936 patents. We (the city) should be generating more ideas. Gov offers 12 million dollars to develop “zones”. Park project (Simmons is planing). Can City volunteer committees help In the process.to get our “fair share”. get map to identify areas. Where are Opp. Zones located? TIF districts?

Nick J (speakers at Principia ) two speakers in February & April. B. Robert on farming & cattle ranching near Spokane Wa. and a social ecologist from Dartmouth with international experience

Deanna: recycle dumpster has been relocated to downtown area near State Street. It is operated by Madison County - materials will be transported Mon, Wed, & Fri.
