Edwardsville FD responds to 56 fires in 2018

Edwardsville Fire District responded to 294 calls in 2018 - 10.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Edwardsville included 56 fires - 26 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 22 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $309,628 in fire loss - or about $5,529 per fire.

The department also received 235 false calls, including one malicious call and 234 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Edwardsville Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 32 active employees and 22 retired or inactive employees, was $38,920 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $649 for every fire in 2017.
