State Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) has officially announced his intention to run for re-election in the 100th District in 2022, according to a report by the Telegraph
Davidsmeyer, who was first appointed to the district in 2012 to replace Jim Watson following his resignation, has successfully secured re-election to the seat ever since.
"We had a beautiful day to do our announcement tour around the 100th District! Yesterday, I announced that I will be running to continue to represent the people of the 100th District," Davidsmeyer announced on Facebook.
Davidsmeyer's hometown of Jacksonville, however, will no longer be included in his district following a redrawing of the district by a Democratic legislative majority.
Morgan County will be divided into two districts as a result of the redrawing, with Jacksonville, South Jacksonville and other municipalities transferring from the 100th to the 99th House District.
As a result of the redistricting, Davidsmeyer will be running to represent a district that runs from Alton to South Jacksonville, but still includes all or portions of Calhoun, Greene Jersey, Madison, Pike, and Scott counties.
"I appreciate everyone who was able to make it out to join me at the Pike, Greene, and Jersey County Courthouses; and also everyone who was able to join Rep. Amy Elik and I at our co-announcement in Godfrey," Davidsmeyer continued. "I specifically want to thank my wife, Kristen, and my boys, Lennox and Pax; my parents; my sister and nephews; my staff and friends Megan and Kyle; and everyone who I have been lucky enough to become friends with throughout the 100th District," Davidsmeyer added.
Davidsmeyer, a Jacksonville native and resident, was on the city council from 2008 to 2012, according to his official website.
He was also appointed in January by state Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Springfield) to serve as the 102nd General Assembly's Assistant Republican Leader, according to a Newchannel20 report.
Davidsmeyer's duties in this position included assisting the House Republican Caucus in bipartisan discussions, establishing public policy, advising new politicians, and securing support for legislation.
