Analysis: Highland administrators rank 519th in state for average pay

Administrators in Highland Community Unit School District 5 earn an average of $96,881 per year, ranking 519th out of 864 districts in Illinois, according to a Metro East Sun analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2020 average is 6.7 percent higher than in 2016 and 2.8 percent lower than in 2011. District administrators make 12.9 percent less than the state average of $111,293.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Highland School District in Madison County enrolled 2857 students in 2019-2020. There is an average of 220 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 171 to 1.
