City of Collinsville Park and Recreation Advisory Commission met May 17.

A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER
Caughran called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm.
B. ROLL CALL
Present: Bronnbauer, Gottschalk, Rehg, and Seaton
Absent: Colon, Gary, and Nagel
Also present: Director of Parks and Recreation Kimberly Caughran; Superintendent of Parks and Open Spaces Jared Chestnut, Superintendent of Recreation Kristen Siebert, Superintendent of Aquatics Jessica Wiedman and Erik Illies.

E. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
a. A motion was made by Seaton, seconded by Bronnbauer to approve the minutes of the March 15, 2022 meeting. The motion carried by the following vote:

F. NEW BUSINESS
a. Caughran gave an overview of the upcoming event. She explained that the event will look different than it did last year due to the lack of pandemic mitigations. Fireworks coordinated to music will wrap up the event. Live music will be highlighted on the stage prior to the fireworks. Siebert gave details on the kids’ area including inflatables, photo bus and mechanical bull.
b. Calendar of Events: a calendar of events was presented to the commission members. Caughran highlighted some of the programs including the new giant inflatable screen for movies to take place in other areas besides the corner lot on Seminary and Mainincluding the Aqua Park and the farm. Camp Kahok was highlighted as well as the horse care and archery at Willoughby Farm and additional programs throughout the year.
Caughran asked for ideas for additional programs. Bronnbauer suggested bringing back the Daddy Daughter Dance and the Mom Son events. Seaton suggested an adult softball league and adult kickball league.
c. Project Updates: Caughran reported that the foundation for the first shelter at Woodland Park has begun. Chestnut gave an update on the fountain replacement project for the lakes at Woodland Park. The electrician began work earlier that day to increase the amount of power at the fountain site. Chestnut is still looking at solar options for fountains at Schnucks Park. Caughran reported that the Rotary Playground has been ordered. The Sports Complex Feasibility Study is working on an updated site plan and it looking for a June deliverable date. Three trucks have been ordered through the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Office furniture has been ordered for staff offices as well as the lobby. Mowers have been ordered. The Willoughby Farm projects involves wifi updates, sound system for the barn and a fire monitoring system. Parts of that project are already underway. Bronnbauer asked when a big pool would be a possibility.
G. OLD BUSINESS
H. STAFF REPORT
a. Wiedman started her report by stating that the Aqua Park open very soon. She is still in need of staff. Currently she is focused on trainings for staff. Water is yet to be in all the pools. She is hopeful that the pools will be filled by the next day. Her staff has been working on getting the park ready for opening as has the general parks maintenance staff. Wiedman reported that programming is taking registrations and filling up nicely.
b. Siebert reported that she has been focusing on Camp Kahok. She has opened the roster up to 80 children per day (up from 60 per day in 2021). She walked through the handouts that designate weekly camp themes and field trips and has put together a webpage for the camp. She reported that CBSL games have started. She added that a rainout hotline has been added to try and help reduce calls to the front desk.
c. Chestnut began his report by stating that he and his crew are mainly just cutting grass non-stop. He has been working on stormwater issues at Woodland Park in coordination with Carol Frerker at the Farm and Heartlands Conservancy.
d. Caughran gave a quick report for the farm. She stated that the farm has been busy with rentals and field trips. She noted that field trips have REALLY picked up since the pandemic mitigations have relaxed. Caughran continued with the report from Jed Robbins stating that the Senior Shuttle is very busy. She also said that the department is seeking part time administrative help and asked for commission members to help spread the word. She also reported on the Sesquicentennial Candle program.
I. COMMENTS FROM COMMISSION MEMBERS
Bronnbauer reported that Facebook has changed the way pages are viewed. She said that not only do people need to like the page, but they also need to make the page a favorite for the most current information. Seaton asked if the movie screen will be available to rent.
