ON THE LINE: The Cougars and Billikens will play for the Joseph Carenza, Sr. trophy, also known as the Bronze Boot.
HISTORIC SERIES: One of the most storied rivalries in college soccer was reestablished in 2018. That year marked the first regular season meeting for the two schools since 1995. Regularly a well-attended game, the meeting was held in downtown St. Louis at Busch Stadium II from 1972-1986. The largest crowd in NCAA history was a Bronze Boot affair, when 22,512 saw the Billikens and Cougars play at Busch Stadium on Oct. 30, 1980.
THE COUGARS: Have won three straight games and are unbeaten in four straight. Since falling 3-1 to Loyola Marymount to open the season, SIUE has outscored its opponents 9-2. Pau Palacin scored in the 90th minute Friday at Western Illinois for a 1-0 road win.
FIVE ALIVE: SIUE's five goals against USI were the Cougars' most in a game since returning to Division I in 2008 and the first since a 5-0 win over Wisconsin-Parkside in September 2007.
SQUAD GOALS: SIUE leads the Missouri Valley Conference in total goals with 10, which ranks 39th Nationally, and total points with 30, which ranks 45th in the NCAA.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Pau Palacin earned Offensive Player of the Week honors in the MVC Sep. 6 after scoring three goals, including two game winners, against Lindenwood and Southern Indiana.
SERIES STUFF: The Billikens own a 26-9-3 advantage in the overall series, including a 22-5-3 lead in the Bronze Boot series. Since the series was brought back in 2018, all three games have gone to overtime, resulting in two draws and a loss (2019) for SIUE. The Cougars last win in the series came in 1982.
