Resurfacing is currently underway for U.S. 20 at Keith Road in Winnebago County, with the work zone taking place 1.5 miles west of Winnebago, according to a release by State Senator Brian Stewart.
The project began on Sept. 28 and involved pavement milling and resurfacing. During the project one lane of U.S. 20 westbound will be closed.
“Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area,” Stewart said in the press release. “To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.”
According to the Illinois DOT website, there will be resurfacing of the Grant Highway (U.S. 20) between Page and Locus Streets in Marengo. It will require daytime lane closures that started on Sept. 26. The project includes constructing an ADA compliant sidewalk ramp as well as replacing curbs that are deteriorating. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Access to residents and businesses in the work zone will be maintained.
According to the release by Stewart, over the next six years there are plans to improve more than 2,500 miles of highway, as well as 10 million square feet of bridge deck. This is part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which involves a $33.2 billion investment in transportation. Year three of the Rebuild Illinois program includes $8.6 billion in improvements on 4,422 highway miles, 412 bridges and 621 other safety improvements.
