Women's Cross Country Posts Sixth Place Showing at Border War Invitational

McKendree University women's cross country returned to action here Friday evening as the Bearcats posted a sixth place finish out of eight teams at the Border War Collegiate Cross-Country Invitational hosted by Principia College and held at the Principia North Farm XC Course.

 

In Friday's meet, which was held at the site of this year's Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, the Bearcats scored 171 points to sit 10 points in front of seventh place Principia (181 points) and 46 points behind fifth-place Lincoln (Mo.) (125 points).

 

Leading the way for the Bearcats in Friday's 5K race, sophomore Reagan Lucas (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) ran a time of 22:10.27 to finish in 22nd place overall.

 

Missouri S&T took home the team title at the event as they recorded 27 points as they put five of their runners in the Top 10. Central Missouri was second as they five runners place inside the Top 10 to score 28 points.

 

Central Missouri had the top two individual finishers as Risper Mengich ran the 5K course in a time of 19:42.25 to finish in first place, while Chloee Belgum was second with a 5K time of 19:46.52.

 

The Bearcats contingent of five runners averaged a time of 25:24.08 overall at its second 5K meet of the season.

 

Freshman Sophia Paschal (Godfrey, Ill./Alton) recorded a 5K time of 23:02.10 to finish in 33rd place overall. Paschal has been either the top finisher or the No. 2 finisher in all four races this season for the Bearcats.

 

Freshman Azia Douglas (Cahokia Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) placed 38th overall with a 5K time of 23:52.25, while freshman Tori King (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) posted a 5K time of 24:08.74 to finish in 41st place overall.

 

The fifth and final runner on Friday for the Bearcats was freshman Lorelei Harness (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville), who recorded a 5K time of 33:40.99 to finish in 55th place overall.

 

McKendree will return to action next Friday, Oct. 14 as they travel to Peoria, Ill., to compete at the Bradley University Pink Classic held at the Newman Golf Course.
