At the Nov. 8 meeting of the Collinsville City Council, council heard from city engineer Troy Turner, who discussed work on Beltline Road from IL-157 to IL-159.

Turner said that IDOT's plans for the resurfacing do not meet the city’s minimum standards, and if they were from any other contractor the city would not accept them.

IDOT maintains that simple resurfacing is adequate and plans to do it in January of 2023.

“We still have some major safety concerns that aren't addressed,” Turner, said. “There have been fatalities – none of the fatalities will be addressed by this, but at least we'll be getting a road with better friction aggregate. So people will at least be able to stop a little better than they will now. So considering the concerns and moreover the concerns of the road, staff is recommending approval of the work.”

The board voted to pass the project.

The city council will meet again at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 22 at City Hall on 125 South Center St. in Collinsville.
