State Sen. Steve McClure (R-Chatham) is taking on the role of floor leader for the Senate Republicans. McClure is representing the newly-drawn 54th District.

“It is a tremendous responsibility to be tasked with presenting the Republican perspective during debates in the chamber and an honor to be asked to serve in this important position by my colleagues,” McClure (R-Springfield) said in a press release

“I'm honored to continue my service in the state Senate and my role in leadership,” he said on Facebook, where he included a link to his release. “I look forward to serving as the floor leader for the Senate Republicans.”

McClure has also been named as Assistant Republican Leader to new Minority Leader John Curran. “Sen. McClure is a bright and promising rising star in the Illinois Senate,” Curran said. “I have full confidence in his ability to serve as the voice of our caucus on important issues that we will take up in the Senate.”

McClure was first sworn in to represent the 50th Senate District in 2019. He is a native Illinois resident.

His legislative biography shows he earned two bachelor's degrees from Arizona State University – one in history and the other in political science. Later, he earned a master's degree from the University of Illinois in Springfield, and then a law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in Indiana.
