There were 5,290 Black students enrolled in Madison County school districts in the 2021-22 school year, 4.3% more than the previous year, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

Data showed that Black students made up 13.8% of the 38,452 students in Madison County during the 2021-22 school year. They were the second most represented ethnicity.

Among the 13 districts in Madison County, Alton Community Unit School District 11 recorded the highest enrollment of Black students in the 2021-22 school year, with a total of 1,758 students.
