April 21-27, 2024 is National Volunteer Week, a time dedicated to recognizing the contributions of volunteers across the country. One individual, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed their pride in serving their fellow citizens in times of need during this special week, stating, "I am proud to have served (and continue to serve) my fellow citizens in times of need."

Highlighting the importance of community involvement, the same individual emphasized, "There is so much we can all do to make positive impacts on our community." They also pointed out the abundance of opportunities for volunteer work in southern Illinois, stating, "You can find countless incredible organizations to get involved with right here in southern Illinois."

Sharing personal experiences, the individual mentioned, "A few that I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years are:" and went on to highlight the value of local churches as hubs for volunteer opportunities, saying, "Local churches are great places to learn about volunteer opportunities too." They further expressed their joy in working with St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, stating, "I’ve found much joy in working with mine, St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, in several capacities."

Recognizing the impact of volunteer groups, the individual reflected on the positive changes witnessed in communities over the years, noting, "I have seen firsthand the positive change these groups have brought to our communities for years." In a call to action, they urged others to join in the efforts, saying, "So, get out there, serve however you can, and make a difference in your community!"

As National Volunteer Week continues to be celebrated, the message of community service and making a difference resonates strongly, encouraging individuals to contribute their time and efforts towards the betterment of society.
