Rep. Mike Bost, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Illinois' 12th district, recently shared several updates via social media. His posts reflect on legislative efforts to honor a fallen Marine and celebrate Illinois statehood.

On December 3, 2024, Rep. Bost commemorated Marine Cpl. Matthew Wyatt by recalling legislation he introduced to rename the post office in Millstadt after him. He noted that it marked "20 years since Matt bravely gave his life defending his fellow Marines from an attack on their base in Iraq." "Earlier this summer, I let you know about legislation I introduced renaming the post office in Millstadt after Marine Cpl. Matthew Wyatt."

In a subsequent post on the same day, Rep. Bost highlighted the honors bestowed upon Cpl. Wyatt for his bravery: "For his heroism, Matt was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star." He expressed pride in his legislative effort to honor Wyatt's legacy, stating that it is expected to pass the House soon and become law."I am proud to let you know that my legislation honoring Matt’s legacy is expected to pass the House tomorrow and soon become law."

Later that day, Rep. Bost celebrated Illinois' 206th anniversary of statehood by reflecting on his role as a representative of diverse regions within Illinois: "Not a day goes by that I don’t realize how fortunate I am to represent the rich farmlands of Eastern Illinois; the rolling hills of deep Southern Illinois; the bustling suburbs of the Metro East; and all points in between.""Today we celebrate 206 years of Illinois statehood."
