House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost has expressed his support following the Senate's confirmation of Douglas A. Collins as Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Senate confirmed Collins with a 77-23 vote, marking him as the twelfth person to hold this position.
Chairman Bost, who has served alongside Collins in the House and shares a background as a veteran, praised Collins' dedication to veterans and their families. "I served with my friend from Georgia and fellow veteran Doug Collins in the House, and I know he has the best interests of our veterans, their families, and their survivors in his heart," stated Bost.
Bost highlighted several issues within the VA that he believes need addressing under Collins' leadership. "For too long, bureaucratic red tape has stood in the way of veterans not getting the healthcare and services they have earned," he noted. He emphasized the importance of restoring accountability among VA employees, improving benefits delivery, and ensuring proper implementation of the VA community care program nationwide.
Chairman Bost expressed confidence in Collins' ability to lead these changes: "I have no doubt that he is the right man for the job, and I look forward to working with him to put veterans first and propel VA into the 21st century agency we know it can be – our veterans deserve nothing less."
