Rep. Mike Bost, U.S. Congressman from Illinois, addressed several issues on his Twitter account this week, including the death of a local official and concerns about a federal government shutdown’s impact on aviation safety and workers.
On October 30, 2025, Bost commented on a recent tragedy in Coles County: "Coles County mourns the tragic loss of County Board Member Michael Clayton and his wife, Gail, who were killed in a head on collision in Westfield last Friday. Tracy and I are praying for the family during this incredibly difficult time. Along with the sadness comes anger that".
Later that day, Bost referenced ongoing efforts to end a government shutdown: "Today I joined my Illinois colleagues, Reps. LaHood and Miller, in demanding our senators reopen the government and end their crippling shutdown. The stakes are too high to play political games with the lives of hardworking Illinoisans." (October 30, 2025).
On October 31, 2025, Bost highlighted consequences of the shutdown for air traffic controllers and other aviation workers: "This week, 13,000 air traffic controllers will go unpaid thanks to the Schumer Shutdown. With thousands more FAA employees working without pay, including technicians who repair and maintain equipment, many families are feeling the pain as our aviation infrastructure and safety is".
Bost has represented Illinois in Congress since first winning election in 2014. He secured re-election multiple times by wide margins—defeating William L. Enyart in 2014 with 52.5% of the vote; Charles Baricevic in 2016 with 54.3%; Raymond Lenzi in 2020 with 60.4%; Chip Markel in 2022 with an even larger margin of 75%. These results underscore his established presence within his district.
