The Highland City Council recently examined a membership funds request from the National Road Association of Illinois.
The City Council for Highland, Illinois, recently convened to discuss the 2016 National Road Association of Illinois membership and funding request.
Mary Truitt, a representative from the association, announced that the goal of her group is to market the beauty and good things that come along Illinois’ great roadways. The organization seeks to get more Illinois citizens to get in their vehicles and explore and rediscover communities, shops, restaurants and tourist attractions along the roadway.
Truitt asked the council for $1,000 to go toward membership. The funds would come from Highland’s hotel/motel tax fund. She noted that these funds would not come from taxpayers, but from guests staying at the community’s hotels.
The council discussed the request and decided it did not have room in the current budget. Members agreed to look at this request at a later date after sifting through the budget to find the requisite funds. Truitt implored the council to find some funds -- even $10 -- to retain membership in the association.
Also of note at this meeting was the approval of the 2016 City Council meeting dates.
