Climate Protection and Energy Efficiency Committee
A meeting of the CPEEC was called to order at 4:00 P.M., on July 5, 2016 , at
Alton City Hall, 101 E. Third Street, Alton
Members present: Jeff Dale ,Alderman David Boulds, Wayne
Politsch, Laura Asher, Randy Houseman
Staff / Guests: Matt Asselmeier Kim Petzing, Madison County- sustain coord.
Kim : MC sustainability coordinator on May 23 (green school coordinator before).in
education for 20 years. Will host a collective cool cities meeting in the near future.
green city challenge. she will strive to have city and township reps more
involved. work with businesses.Questions posed to Kim by the group include: What is
the status of county sustainability report? What is the status of sustainability grant/
loans ??? Godfrey bike trails?
Discussion of our visit to the Alton water treatment plant. Laura: need to move towards
greater energy efficiency. Steve G. doing study on available energy grants for energy
the treatment plant. Will do a tour of the Alton Water Plant in September (Matt will make
the arrangements).

moneys from state for developing fields.
Matt out of town August 2 but lets have meeting. the Alton water features are up and
running. note about some native landscaping by Pride on the city streets.
Some discussion on the recently created Madison County energy group- has a
dominate fossil fuel focus. Interest in having a fall “cool cities” meeting at the River
Science center & getting a look at the 7 solar panel installations.
