Six SIUE softball players pick up postseason honors

Softball2

Six Southern Illinois-Edwardsville softball players earned honors from the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) recently, the school's website reported.

Haley Chambers-Book was named the league's pitcher of the year for the second time and placed on the all-conference first team.

Three starters in the everyday lineup — second baseman Allison Smiley, shortstop Sarah Lopesilvero and center fielder Alyssa Heren — made the league's second team.

SIUE had the second-most selections for the first and second teams of all OVC teams. Jacksonville State led with six.

Cougars first baseman Zoe Schafer and pitcher Emily Ingles were named to the All-Newcomer Team.

Murray State's Jessica Twaddle was named the league's player of the year, Southeast Missouri's Rachel Anderson was picked as the freshman of the year, and Jacksonville State's Jana McGinnis was honored as coach of the year.
