Katie Miller, a Maryville Elementary kindergarten teacher and mother of four, got a nice surprise recently when Jason Rehg of Edward Jones stopped by to award her the "Collinsville Community Unit School District 10 Teacher of the Month" prize for October, according to the school's Facebook page.
"She teaches kindergarten and is one of our PTA secretaries," Principal Carmen Loemker posted. "She has four children of her own, including a baby, but stayed until 7:00 p.m. recently to complete the PTA audit. She is positive with students and staff members always looking for ways to accommodate student needs. She uses her creative talents to make our school a fun and inviting place for students."
Miller teaches but also runs bulletin boards in public spaces and leads "Art to Remember," which turns student artwork into keepsakes, according to the Facebook page.
