City of Alton Civil Service Commission met September 6. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the commission:

A regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was called to order at 8:15am on September 6, 2017,

at Alton City Hall, 101 E. Third Street, Alton, Illinois.

Members Present: Terry Bristow, Vicki Searles-Williams

Members Absent: Jonas Janek

Staff Present: Civil Service Attorney Patrick King

Guests Present: Police Chief Jake Simmons

A motion was made by Ms. Williams and seconded by Mr. Bristow to approve the minutes of the

regular meeting on August 16, 2017. Motion passed.

Retirement form from Sgt Michael Gordon was signed.

Revised job descriptions for Police Captain was signed.

Two promotions from the Police Department were signed, Jacob Custer and Jacob Stewart to PFC.

Two written warnings from the Fire Department were discussed.

Chief Simmons discussed the Lateral Entry Program with the Commission. Commission will continue

discussion and plans to vote on the program at the next meeting.

Chief Simmons made a request to extend the Captain list. Captain promotional exam was discussed.

Further discussion and plans to vote will take place at the next meeting.

Three police officer interviews were held.

With no further business, Mr. Bristow made a motion, seconded by Ms. Williams to adjourn at 9:35am.

Motion passed.
