City of Fairview Heights Business Alliance Commission met Oct. 24.
Here is the minutes provided by the Commission;

Approval of Minutes Motion and second were made by Don Barkley/Bob Triplett to approve the September 26, 2017 minutes as written. The motion carried by voice vote and was unanimous.
Sales Tax Report
Commission reviewed the 1% sales tax report. The City is down -1.1% in sales tax, or $6,161.84. The Hotel/Motel and Food/Beverage tax reports were not included in this meeting's agenda, but will be included in future agendas for review. Commission also discussed the future positive impact on sales tax due to the recent opening of Dick's Sporting Goods and Ruler Foods having a projected opening in December 2017.
Economic Development Director's Report
Mike Malloy announced several projects in the works:
o The three (3) Economic Development Strategy proposals are going to be tabled until the new Director of Economic Development is able to thoroughly review and provide input.
o Dick's Sporting Goods opened on October 10, 2017. Per the redevelopment agreement, they were not required to open until August of 2018, so their earlier opening will be have a positive impact on the City's sales tax sooner than originally anticipated.
o Ruler Foods is anticipated to be open to the public by the second week in December 2017.
o Director continues to work on finalizing ROW conveyances and Temporary Construction Easements for Phase of the Streetscape project.
o Director continues to work with Brixmor on demolishing the former Denny's building and installing a fountain/geyser in the existing retention pond at Crossroads Centre.
o Director is working with a broker to locate an IT firm in the City.
o Atenant has signed a Letter of Intent to fill the former H.H. Gregg space, and occupancy is expected by the tenant in spring of 2018.
o A local operator will be opening a restaurant/sports bar called Wing it in the former Olga's Kitchen space inside St. Clair Square on the lower level.
o Discussion was held in regards to the unemployment rates and employers having a difficult time finding qualified candidates who can pass drug Screenings.
Commission held discussion about the new Director of Economic Development, Paul Ellis, Who was originally set to begin work on December 22, 2017. Paul may be able to start Working with the City in mid-November, and will know more information later in the week. Mike Malloy stated that he will contact Paul Ellis to see if he is able to join the next Commission's meeting in November 2017.
