Cahokia VFD responds to 127 fires in 2017

Cahokia Volunteer Fire Department responded to 222 calls in 2017 - 117.6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Cahokia included 127 fires - 66 structure fires, 16 vehicle fires and 45 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $762,170 in fire loss - or about $6,001 per fire.

The department also received 91 false calls, including 21 malicious calls and 70 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related death.

The Cahokia Volunteer Fire Department had an annual budget of $202,265 in 2017.
