Collinsville's Billy reaches career milestone

Basketball

Collinsville girls basketball coach Lori Billy recently notched her 100th career victory, and the school saluted her on the its Facebook page.

Junior forward Faith Liljegren paced the Kahoks on the historic evening, finishing with a game-high 19 points in a 61-43 win over Okawville in the season opener for both teams in the Nashville Thanksgiving Tournament.

Now in her ninth season, Billy was all emotions after achieving the milestone, according to StlToday.com.

"To me, it's the kids,” she said. “I've been blessed with so many great kids over the years, as a JV coach and a varsity coach. I'm so thankful to them."

The bond Billy shares with Liljegren is especially special, as the two have grown closer ever since the teen’s mom died to cancer in early 2017.

"Faith is the kind of kid you wish you could duplicate and create a ton of them to put on your team," she told StlToday.com."The work ethic that kid has is part of her nature. It's because of her parents."
