City of Alton issued the following announcement on March 20.
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
To ensure the safety of our citizens and staff, the City Treasurer’s office will not be accepting over-the-counter payments at this time.
I would like to encourage citizens to make payments via the online payment portal. Convenience Fees that are usually associated with online payments will be absorbed by the City during this time and all late fees incurred during this time will be waived.
***How to make online payments***
1. Visit www.cityofaltonil.com
2. From the menu on the left-hand side of screen, select PAY MY BILL
3. From the SERVICE tab on the left, under ONLINE PAYMENTS, select UTILITY BILLING PAYMENTS
4. Enter your account number (9090…) which is listed on your bill and SEARCH
For over-the-phone payments, please call 1-844-462-1016
*You will need your account number for over-the-phone payments.
All payments made via cityofaltonil.com will post to your account the same day.
***CASH PAYMENTS***
Please place your payment and invoice or bill in an envelope and place in drop box. If you do not have exact cash, your change will be credited to your account.**
For those customers who are unable to make online payments, please utilize the drop box located on the front of the building.
