Cahokia VFD responds to 137 fires in 2018

Cahokia Volunteer Fire Department responded to 244 calls in 2018 - 9.9 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Cahokia included 137 fires - 86 structure fires, nine vehicle fires and 42 other fires. The fire department also responded to eight calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $704,790 in fire loss - or about $5,144 per fire.

The department also received 99 false calls, including six malicious calls and 93 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Cahokia Volunteer Fire Department had an annual budget of $1,157,277 in 2018.
